CATIAの意味

• CATIA

CATIA（キャティア）とは、Computer graphics Aided Three dimensional Interactive Applicationの頭文字をとったハイエンド３次元CADソフトウェア ソフトである。
開発はフランスのダッソー・システムズ。CATIAは、1981年の同社創立以来の看板商品で、リリース以来四半世紀以上を生き永らえており、CAD、特に競争の激しいハイエンド3次元CADソフトとしては、比類のない長寿製品である。
もともとは、ダッソー・アヴィアシオン（Dassault Aviation）の製品である航空機（戦闘機・ビジネスジェット等）の設計用に開発されてきたが、現在では、エアロ・スペースの分野以外の民生需要も多く、国内外ともに多くの自動車メーカーで使用されている。翻って、極めて高額なライセンス料金を課されるソフトであるため、設計・開発が容易な分野での顧客は少ない。

機械設計に詳しい方のご意見やアドバイス、ご推考などを希望します。 以下の２つの例を比較した場合、どちらの方が、今だけでなく「将来性」や「面白さ」があると思われますか?　 ①「CATIA V5」による自動車の設計・開発・モデラー。 ②「Pro-E」によるCAD/GIS用プロッタ・プリンタなどの設計。 今だけをみると、①のCATIAの技術者は「不足」してるようですし、また設計対象もクルマなので「面白そう」に感じています。しかし、感じているにすぎません。 「自動車の設計は他の設計への応用があまりきかないともいえる」「Pro-EはじつはCATIAに匹敵するかそれ以上に普及する可能性がある」「プロッタ系の設計にはじつはこんな面白さや利点がある」「いやなんだかんだいっても機械ではCATIAがいちばん」「双方それぞれこんな利点がある」みたいなご意見、ご推考がありましたらよろしくお願いします。 また、他にも検討の仕方や盲点、「3DのCADにこだわることにはあまり意味がない」などのご意見がありましたら助かります。
